New article on Moldovan migration to Czechia and Italy

December,  2017 - The academic journal AUC Geographica has just published the new article with the title "Diversification trends in Moldovan International migration: Evidence from Czechia and Italy". Among the authors, you can find more members of our research centre: Dušan Drbohlav, Zdeněk Čermák, Dita Čermáková, Lenka Pavelková, Markéta Seidlová, Ondřej Valenta. The article was written within our project supported by the Czech Grant Agency "Moldovans in Prague (Czechia) and Turin (Italy). It deals in detail with the current Moldovan emigration with focus on migration to Czechia and Italy. The article was written in collaboration with our partners in Italy and Moldova.

Members of the team Geomigrace participated in the 11th Slovak-Czech-Polish Seminarium

June, 25 2017 - Seven members of our team participated in the Slovak-Czech-Polish Seminarium "Flows, Spaces and SOcieties in Central Europe" that took place between June 14th and June 16th, 2017, in Trenčianske Teplice, Slovakia.

Dušan Drbohlav v České televizi

15. června 2017 - Hned dvakrát za sebou vystoupil Dušan Drbohlav v pořadech České televize. V neděli 11. června mluvil ve Studiu 24 o bezvízovém styku s Ukrajinou, v pořadu 90' mluvil o neochotě české vlády přijmout kvóty EU na přerozdělení uprchlíků mezi členské státy.

Competition for the best master thesis on international migration

January 8, 2017 - Our centre organizes already a third competition for the best master thesis on international migration for students at Czech universities. The theses submitted can be written in Czech, Slovak or English language and they must be defended in the academic years 2014/2015 or 2015/2016.
You can submit your thesis for the competition by sending it by e-mail to Zdeněk Čermák, Together with your thesis, send your CV and a copy of your opponent's review. The deadline for submissions is FEBRUARY 28th, 2017.
Three best theses will get financial reward (6 000 CZK, 4 000 CZK, 2 000 CZK according to the ranking).

New article about the spatial concentration of Vietnamese migrants’ businesses on Prague’s Sapa site

December 12, 2016 - Dušan Drbohlav and Dita Čermáková article was published in Österreichische Zeitschrift für Soziologie on the topis of economic concentration of Vietnamese in Prague district. In an article entitled "A new song or evergreen ...?" The spatial concentration of Vietnamese Migrants' Businesses on Prague's Sapa site authors seek to answer the question whether the creation of such places of economic concentration of Vietnamese is common or it is specific of Czechia respectively in Central Europe. The authors are studing the Sapa´s function, economic and ethnic structure, mutual relations among entrepreneurs and physical morphology.

November 14th, 2016 - The 13th IMISCOE Annual Conference took place in Prague, 30 June – 2 July 2016. The conference covered the theme ‘Migration and Development’. You can have a look at several sets of photos with impressions from the conference as well as videos from the keynote lectures, semi-plenaries and the winner of the Maria Baganha Dissertation Award (they can be accessed by entering the password: geo). Two publications about the future of migration from Ukraine, editors are members of our research team

September 30, 2016 - Two our publications were published which focused on research of Ukrainian migration during the crisis - In the book Ukrainian Migration in Times of Crisis: Forced and Labour Mobility (eds Dusan Drbohlav, Marta Jaroszewicz) are captured the impacts of deteriorating security as well as socio-economic situation in Ukraine, springing from the Russian annexation of the Crimea and the eruption of war in the eastern part of the country, migration from Ukraine to the European Union (EU), especially to Poland, Czech and Slovakia.

Invitation to two conferences on the occasion of completion of our project "Ukraine's Migration Monitoring: Forced Labor and Mobility"

August 29, 2016 - we are invited to the final conferences of the project "Ukraine's Migration Monitoring: Forced Labor and Mobility," which will take place on 13/9/2016 in Warsaw, 14/9/2016 in Bratislava. The aim of the project was to map the migration flows from Ukraine to Central European countries (Poland, CZE, SK) as a result of political events in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine (more about the project). The project results in published book. The book can be ordered free of charge by the publishers P3K or electronically downloaded from our website at the end of September.
